long time; no blog - sorry!

Yes, it has been a long time since I blogged.  I must admit I didn't realise it had been quite as long as it had been.

So it was child number 3's birthday on the 21st December.  Life would have been a whole lot easier had he arrived when he was supposed to!  He had an enforced eviction two weeks after his due date. Stubborn much?  In fact - still is :)

Cake wise, I didn't do what I was intending on doing.  I had wanted to try out a silhouette cake.  I also had the staff bbq two days before hand.  So I cooked all that day for the bbq and also baked his cakes that day (8" round lemon and 6" round chocolate) and then I ate too much, drank too much and was merry.  I spent the next day recuperating and eating left overs - luckily I had a friend and family come out and help with that task.  I made the SMBC that night and crumb coated the cakes.  At this point I had decided I was feeling too pooped to split and fill the cakes - lazy right? wait it gets worse.  And then I decided that I wasn't going to cover it with fondant and just go with the SMBC - I mean most kids aren't a fan of fondant any way, right? Ok, so my kids like it but maybe I shouldn't mention that...  And then I decided that I was also far far to knackered to sit there and painstaking cut out the silhouette with a scalpel.  So he got a cake that said "happy birthday" on one tier (which I wish I had made bigger and also not pushed to hard on - you'll see what i mean) and his name on the other.  I used modelling chocolate for the decorations.  It was my first time using it and I must say I am a fan.  Anyhow some photographic proof....

Gotta love the babies addition ay.

I must say too, our summer has been absolute crap so far and we had to have the fire going.  Of course I got a little overzealous with the fire so it was far too hot for all the people let alone for the cake so it icing was very very soft.

I may not be able to post as often this year, well not with cakes, as we are building.  We have a slab down at the moment and are waiting on the frames.

Oh and my three in the photos above are the blue long sleeved t shirt behind the baby, the baby (obviously...) and the exuberant yellow t shirt wearing boy.

I have recently received my first turn table.  I know crazy right.  Its the wilton tilt and turn ultra.  I'm itching to try it out.  I have also bought a press ice tool second hand and am itching to try that out.  Plus it's valentine soon...

See you all next time.  Ka kite.
